Every one of us has a few miles we’d rather not drive again.
Some roads were rough because of what happened to us.
Some because of choices we made.
Some because we simply didn’t know any better at the time.
Whatever the reason, those miles are still back there.
The mistake a lot of people make is staring at them so long that they forget to watch the road ahead.
I’ve learned that our past can explain us, but it doesn’t have to define us.
The worst day of your life isn’t your identity.
Neither is your biggest mistake.
Neither is the thing someone else did that you’ve been carrying around for years.
Those things happened.
They’re real.
But they’re chapters, not the whole book.
If you’re reading this and carrying something heavy, I hope you’ll hear this from someone who’s lived long enough to know...
It really does get better.
Not always quickly.
Not always the way you expect.
There will still be days when an old memory catches you off guard or a scar reminds you it’s still there.
That’s okay.
Scars prove we healed.
The windshield in your car is a whole lot bigger than the rear view mirror for a reason.
Take a glance back once in a while. There’s value in remembering where you’ve been.
Just don’t spend so much time looking backward that you miss the life waiting in front of you.
We’ve all got more road to travel.
I’m rooting for you.
